Abstract

The article presents the concept, goals, directions and challenges for sustainable development in the steel industry. The implementation of changes towards sustainable development will help influence environmental protection and reduce climate change and environmental degradation by ensuring resources for future generations and the possibility
of further development of civilization. However, the steel industry, as one of the pillars of economic development, is particularly vulnerable to various types of production regulations. The main challenges for the industry in question are to reduce energy consumption in the production process and to introduce sustainability regulations on a global level to ensure competitiveness for producers in different parts of the world.
