Abstract

These reflections refer to preparing children to the role of an adult member of society. In part I the author discusses life skills determining functioning of an individual, including the phenomenon of functional illiteracy and the meaning of reading and writing skills. Deficiencies in this aspect have long-term effects, like drastic decrease of quality of life. Part II includes reflections about intensification of pedagogical measures
carried out by parents and teachers which are indispensable in strenghtening the children's personality. They include, among other things, subjectivity, building a positive image of oneself, self-estimation, believing in oneself and self-efficacy. Only a strong personality potential will allow the children to face the life difficulties in the future.
