Abstract

Długosz Square currently occupies a special and negative place on the mental map of Racibórz. Its present function, as a city wide parking lot in the center of the Old Town, can only satisfy the owners of cars parked here. Open space is an unhealed post
war wound in the historical structure of urban development. The aim of this study is to analyse the possibilities of a new development of the space of Długosza Square, taking into account social expectations and the historical context of this place, showing the phases of the process didactic in teaching architectural design. The presented proposals are illustrated by student projects developed at the Institute of Architecture ANS in Racibórz as part of the classes didactic in the subject of Architectural Design.
