Abstract

The aim of this work is to examine one of the shortest-lasting battles – the Battle of Somosierra in 1808. We begin by analyzing the consequences of this engagement, proceeding to understand the historical background concerning the Duchy of Poland, and concluding with events leading up to, occurring during, and following the battle. It is particularly noteworthy to focus on the Polish charge of the lancers, which brought immense glory and fame to Napoleon, enabling him to pave the way to Madrid with the determination and heroism of the Polish soldiers.
