ANALYSIS OF THE PROPULSION SYSTEMS USED IN GLIDERS
Keywords:

Gliding represents the intersection of human ingenuity and the forces of nature. A profound understanding of meteorology, combined with exceptionally efficient glider designs, enables the crossing of vast distances without the use of any fuel. However, the absence of an engine entails certain limitations; consequently, an increasing number of modern gliders are equipped with retractable propulsion systems. These systems facilitate a safe return home when soaring conditions deteriorate and, in some instances, even allow for self-launching capabilities. This paper aims to discuss the various types and applications of glider propulsion systems, while providing a comparison of the solutions currently available on the commercial market.
