Abstract

This article presents the barriers of communication between members of two social groups - native Englishmen and Polish emigrants. The concepts of communication and their barriers were introduced. The Polish minority was defined, and the paradigm of symbolic interactionism was described, along with the grounded theory. The correlation between the level of prejudice and communication was investigated, as well as between the level of language skills and communication again. For this purpose, the triangulation of survey, interview and observation methods was used. The research sample was found
using the snowball sampling and middle-class respondents of various ages have been surveyed. A disproportionately large number of English respondents have showed a high level of tolerance. Ultimately, correlation between prejudice and communication, nor between language proficiency and communication have not been found.
